Week 33

August 2015—August 2015

This is a post about weeknotes.

The move to Berlin is approaching and so we've been planning on renting out our flat. Eschewing paying estate agents a significant percentage of the rental cost to annoy tenants and charge them huge "admin" fees, we've decided to use OpenRent. It offers tools for listing properties on RightMove and Zoopla, scheduling viewings and handling credit checks, contracts, inventories and deposits. You provide all the content, host the viewings and manage the property. It works well for both sides, keeping costs down but providing protection for both sides.

We spent Saturday taking photos and writing a listing for the property. Listed it on a Sunday and had 4 viewings on Monday out of which we chose some tenants. Really glad it didn't drag on.

Renting the flat out has provided an incentive to do all the household tasks that we've put off over the last couple of years. Such as getting a carpet on the stairs and fixing the annoying boiler control panel flap with magnets and superglue.
